Evangelism!
Say this word to a church congregation and you’ll most likely get one of two responses:
- “Yippeeee! Let’s do it!” (Normally about 10% of the congregation)
- “Aaargh! Not another program and more work! (Normally the other 90%)
But here we are, saying the word “evangelism” every week! We are praying about it, fasting for it, talking about it, looking for it and some of us are even doing it!
I’m sure we all agree that it is a very important thing to do. In fact, some churches think it is so important that they’ll pay money to employ other people to do it for them! Many christians also believe it’s very important, important enough to attend events when famous evangelists come to town, every couple of years or so.
But what about us, One Church Perth, me and you? Do we believe that this is something important, perhaps even more important than our routine, our schedule, our plans, even our own self? I don’t know about you, but I’m challenged by this thought.
Jesus considered this one of His most important tasks on earth, not only was He sent by God to save those of us who were lost, but He was also sent by God, to commission us, to raise up those of us who would share in his mission – to be co-missionaries!
This year, we are aiming to encourage you, to enable you, or even to inspire you, to lead somebody to Jesus and then to ensure that they are being discipled to live for Him, as you do! It is my prayer, that we all would become proficient in carrying out the duties of the evangelist in 2012.
